Top Ten Tuesday: I’d Want to be Stranded on a Deserted Island with…

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

It would be all too easy to choose characters based solely on how much I adore them, but I thought I would be smart about this and choose characters who would also help keep me alive. Who knows how long we’d be stranded. So without further ado, here are the characters I would want with me if I were stranded on a deserted island (I’m hoping for somewhere tropical):

1. The Survivalist: Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games Trilogy) —

Sure she’s surly, but I think it’s safe to say she picked up a few skills that would come in handy from her time in the arena. Bonus: she can hunt.

2. The Brawn: Beast (Dark Triumph)

Big and burly, I’d definitely want Beast on my team in a fight. There isn’t much this man can’t take on, and beneath all those muscles and scars is a loyal heart.

3. The Brains: Artemis Fowl

I’m sure this criminal mastermind’s smarts would come in handy on island. He’d be the Professor to our Gilligan’s Island. He’d probably figure out a way to fashion a radio antenna out of palm fronds.

4. The Strategist: Jaron (The Ascendance Trilogy) —

Provided we find that the island is inhabited after all…by angry cannibals, I’d want Jaron planning our attack. Plus, I just love him, so there’s that.

5. The Comic Relief: Kenji (The Shatter Me Trilogy) —

When emotions start to get too high, Kenji’s humour will help ease the tension.

6. The Cook: Mrs. Weasley (Harry Potter series) —

Not only would she keep us well supplied in corned-boar sandwiches and other yummy island goodness, I think it would be a good idea to have a mom figure around to keep the rest of us from getting too unruly. And, you know, she’s magic, which can’t hurt.

7. The Eye-Candy: Roth (White Hot Kiss) —

Okay, he’s probably not a very smart choice given he’s a demon and all, but come on. Those abs, those golden eyes, that dagger-sharp wit. Swoon. He can keep me company on the beach—him shirtless, of course. I don’t think he will get into too much trouble…

8. The Doctor: Gilbert Blythe (Anne of Green Gables series) —

Always a good idea to have someone with medical skills. It was between him and Madam Pomfrey but Gilbert’s charming personality won out.

9. The Level-Headed One: Hermione Granger (Harry Potter series) —

Hermione is kind of the whole package: she’s knowledgeable, she’s got serious magical ability and she keeps her cool under pressure. She could probably survive just fine on her own. Plus, I think we would get a long great what with our love of books.

10. The Best Friend: Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables series) —

Everyone needs someone to while away the long hours with (plotting, gossiping, etc.) and I think Anne is a great choice. We would totally be bosom friends. And, with her loyalty and spunk, I know she will have my back when things start to turn all Lord of the Flies.

Which characters would you want to be stranded with on a deserted island? Share your answers in comments.

  1. Ahhh, how did I not think of Gilbert? Fantastic list. Anne Shirley is a good one as well, though I think there may also be moments when she would talk so much that I might want to throw her out into the sea. 😉
