A Round-Up Of Fun Tid-Bits and Bookish News

Actor and regular jack-of-all-trades Jason Segel is turning an old script into a series of books for young adults. I’m very curious to find out more about these books but he’s keeping details quite close to the vest.

Given my love of literary lists, I thought I would share this fun one: The Savvy Reader has come up with a list of secondary characters who deserve their own stories! So many fantastic choices. Do you have a favourite secondary character you would love to see in a book of their own? Share in comments.

Beloved author Beverly Cleary celebrated her birthday yesterday and students all across the country celebrated with her by participating in D.E.A.R (Drop Everything And Read). Did you D.E.A.R? Share your experience in comments. If you missed out, don’t worry—the whole month of April is D.E.A.R month!

Plus, lots of titles are receiving recognition in terms of book awards this week:

The Canadian Science Writers’ Association (CSWA) announced the shortlist for the 2012 Science in Society Book Awards.

And the finalists for the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children’s Book Awards (for both children’s and YA) have been announced.

Congrats to all these wonderful and worthy books! I can’t wait to see which ones are named the winners.
