“It all began when Floyd got his kite stuck in a tree.”
In Stuck by the incomparable Oliver Jeffers (HarperCollins), Floyd’s kite gets stuck in a tree and so he spends the rest of the day doing throwing everything he can think of into the tree to get it back down.
I defy you to read this book without laughing, or at least smirking hugely. Told in a style something akin to “There was an old lady who swallowed a fly…” (but without the annoying song), Floyd’s kite saving antics escalate to ridiculous, whale-sized proportions. And as the ridiculousness grows, so too will your grin. I promise.
Stuck isn’t just a list of things being thrown into a tree—it is smart and brimming with personality. Just when you think that Floyd has finally figured out how to get his kite down… Nope! He just throws something else, including his idea light bulb (brilliant touch, by the way!).
Funny and inventive, Stuck has everything including the kitchen sink (seriously, there is actually a kitchen sink). This is a wonderfully ridiculous book (and, no, I will not stop using the word ridiculous because it’s just that wonderfully ridiculous) and it is sure to leave you smiling.
