Popcorn and a Book (15): Coming Soon To A Theatre Near You

For this week’s Popcorn and a Book, I thought I would take a look at the upcoming films I’m excited about that are based on books.

1. The Perks of Being a Wallflower (book by Stephen Chbosky) — This movie hits theatres today! I haven’t read this book yet but have heard fantastic things about it. It seems to be one of those contemporary novels that everyone should read at least once in their lives. We’ll see if I agree…

2. Breaking Dawn Part 2 (book by Stephenie Meyer) — The final installment in the Twilight Saga will be rocking the box office November 16th. Will there actually be a battle in this adaptation or will the climax fall flat like it did in the book? We’ll find out in November.

3. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (book by J.R.R. Tolkien) — This is definitely the movie to see this Christmas, and the movie I am most excited about! The Unexpected Journey begins December 14th.

I can’t wait to journey back to Middle Earth. (Side note: how fantastic is this movie poster?! I want it for my wall…)

That being said, I am furious that The Hobbit is being split into three parts! Each LOTR book was one film per book and they were fantastic. And hello, The Hobbit is a fraction of the size of the LOTR books and it gets three?! I could understand two parts if you really want to get into the story, but three? Come on, that’s a money grab and nothing more.

“Popcorn and a Book” is a bi-weekly meme I host where I will compare one book with its adapted film, looking at the content, the way it has been visualized, the experience, etc. If you would like to participate in this meme, please visit the “Popcorn and a Book” main page for details.
